Water Meter Installation Guide 1: What Should We Do before Water Meter Installation?
Before installing the water meter, please be sure to follow the steps below to make the whole process goes smoothly and the water meter works properly:
Site Preparation
Application and permits
Submit application forms and drawings to the local water supply department to get the permits.
Check connections
Check whether there are any concealed unauthorized connections or illegal modifications in the pipeline system.
Place preparation
Ensure that the installation location is free of debris, allowing installers and future meter reading, maintenance, and replacement.
Meter protection
For outdoor installations, ensure a water meter box or cover is prepared in order to protect the water meter from rain, freezing temperatures, and outside damage. In cold areas, install the water meter with insulation materials.
Water Meter and Tools Preparation
Determine the water meter type and size
Select the right water meter type (such as woltman water meter, irrigation water meter, smart water meter, etc.) and size (diameter) based on nominal flow rate and pipe size, which can avoid inaccurate metering or damage.
Inspect the water meter and accessories
Check that the water meter is is good and clean without defects. Check that all water meter accessories are complete.
Check installation tools and materials
Wrenches, pipe wrenches, and other tools for installing the water meter. Teflon tape for sealing pipe connections to prevent leaks. Pipe cutting tools (such as cutters, saws, etc.) for adjusting pipe length if necessary. Cleaning cloth for wiping pipe and water meter connections to ensure cleanliness of the joint surfaces.
Pipeline Inspection
Flushing the pipes
Slowly flush the water supply pipes with water to remove debris that may damage the water meter.
Inspect pipe connections
Check for flatness and damage. If necessary, repair or replace the pipes to ensure reliable connections.
Reserve straight pipe section
A sufficient length of straight pipe should be reserved before and after the water meter (usually 10 times the pipe diameter upstream and 5 times the pipe diameter downstream) to ensure accurate measurement.
Close the main valve
Be sure to close the main valve and cut off the water supply to prevent water leakage or spraying accidents during installation.
After following the above steps, you can begin installing the water meter. By the way, to guarantee the installation quality, it is suggested to have it done by a professional person.
